§ Summer Service Project:

Two possibilites are available now
Redo the Chapter Floor
Relocating the Tuba Shed to keep it from getting in the way of SAC II (Student Athletic Complex Expansion)
Mystery Project to be disseminated by Bucky Johnson (Director of Bands) at some point in the future
Bucky also approached the chapter about the first two, the chapter had mixed responses
IAA in support of the projects
Matt McCullough appointed to spearhead

§ The Ritual Workshop
Discussion Points included:

The one from the Spring was well received
We've been requested to do another one in the fall
We'd need to do it early so that the neophytes (most recent inititates) will remain interested.
Jeff Kunberger is interested in organizing it, but will be unable to moderate/run it.
Todd Lyman volunteers to moderate

§ Alumni Weekend
Discussion ensues...:

The board discussed an idea of setting the date for each year
Do it the weekend before Memorial Day every year?
Concerns mentioned regarding the ability of out-of-state folk would not be able to come
Date set tentatively and hopefully that will become a problem real soon
Matt Simons nominated to head it up. "Sure!"

§ Long Term Projects
Discussion ensues...:

Scholarship (Matt Simons)

Did a simple spread sheet based on a 25 year set
Assumed a base membership of 60, and the end of 12 years, balance is $17,000
How do we invest it?

Can we add it to the Georgia Tech Alumni Association's General Scholarship, but still control our own money - i.e. we could earn interest on it as though we have millions of dollars?

Do we start initiating the money in right now?
Call it an endowment fund?
Do we take $5.00 off of the dues for it?
Suggestion to table the discussion till later in the meeting

Commisioning Fund (Wendy McCullough)

The Active Chapter has $3,000 in their fund right now
They want to give the composer 5 years to write it [sic]

IAA wonders why the timeline is that long...perhaps they want to be searching at 5 years...?

How much can we help out on this?

It is much more the speed of an alumni association to solicit donations and pass them along
Their may be alumni who would contribute if they were aware of it
Have someone talk to their financial person to help coordinate putting this money somwhere it can earn interest. OFFER HELP ONLY. Provide options to help increase the totals (CD's, Money Markets, etc)
They're committing ~15% of their income to it now
Do the leg work to give them options of what to do?
Debbie Baker would be a good source for composer names, ideas of length of time it takes to write
Pay a few people to write a fanfare ($100~$300?) and decide which style you like, then give them the go ahead to finish it
Do you need a big name composer? Not really...

Delegate Assistance (Matt McCullough)

Do we help the delegation or the official delegate?
What do we contribute?
How do we contribute?
Nation vs. District or both?
At the moment, we're not in a position to realistically help them
Ensure that Iota is always represented?

Matt Simons volunteers to donate $110.00 to cover the cost of the delegate registration on behalf of the Iota Alumni Association
Long Distance Discussion Ensues:

What would we do?
Pay for registration and room, but let them cover getting transportation and food?
Will this increase IAA membership? Will it deter it?
We need to recruit young and "get retro" as time permits
We need to increase the concrete things that we do and the actives knowledge of them so that when they graduate, they'll be more inclined to join

Are we going to do National Again in two years?
District isn't as hard to attend, and National is a higher profile event - national business, etc.

Scholarship Revisited:

"From now on, $5.00 of the $25.00 dues will be earmarked for the Scholarship."
